The 167th winner of the New St Leger, held on Saturday 18th September 1943 over the 1 mile 6 1/2 furlongs of the July course at Newmarket, was Herringbone, a bay filly by King Salmon out of Schiaparelli, owned by the 17th Earl of Derby. A field of 12 runners contested the race which was worth £2,600 to the winner. (Equivalent to £112,600 in 2017)
